June 2018- Lima and Cusco, Peru
Last month we traveled to Peru to visit the beautiful Machu Picchu! We traveled with a small group with an escorted tour, which is great way to see A LOT in a short amount of time with no worries about transportation. Our trip began in Lima, Peru, where we stayed for two nights. We visited the tourist district of Miraflores and saw the Pacific Ocean from the Love Park. Our tour continued with the suburb of San Isidro and a visit to the pre-Inca pyramid Huaca Huallamarca. We then visited the Historical Center, Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace, the City Hall and old streets with colonial mansions and Moorish balconies. So much history here!! Next we were transferred to the airport for our flight to Cusco, for a two night stay near the ruins of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here we had a full day excursion to Chincheros and Ollantaytambo. Chincheros is a traditional Andean town with many attractions- Inca ruins, Andean village houses, an elaborate colonial church built on Inca foundation, and a lively weekly market. Ollantaytambo is a massive citadel which served as a temple and a fortress and the only battle at which the Incas held off the Spanish! The following day we were transferred from Cusco to a train station in Ollantaytambo where we boarded a train to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World! Our tour included every nook and cranny of this amazing site! This was definitely a memorable experience, one we will never forget!

Proper planning and forethought can help make your family vacation fun instead of an exercise in how much stress two adults can take.
